Supermoon 2012 in Cincinnati, OH. The moon appears especially big and bright during this once-a-year cosmic event as the full moon is at its closest to the Earth in its elliptical orbit. That proximity makes the moon appear about 14 percent bigger than it would if the moon were at its farthest distance. (NOTE: The moon was superimposed a little to the north to include it to show scale with downtown Cincinnati) The moons size was not altered in any way.
